Green Smoothies

July 25, 2013

Green Smoothie in a glass jar with a drinking straw.

We do green smoothies almost everyday.  My kids call them salad smoothies, and they love to see how much spinach they can stuff into the blender.  It’s a great way to ease that mommy guilt when you let your kids have popcorn for breakfast. There are so many variations and ways to change it up, but this is our go to recipe.

If green smoothies are new to your kids, start out with a little bit of spinach and gradually add a little more each day.  It also helps to start them young!  My boys had these smoothies as soon as they could have dairy and drink from straw.

I’m so glad you posted this! I’ve been meaning to ask you what you put in yours! And I’m so excited that we have all those ingredients on hand. My prediction is that Garrison will love it and Silas won’t even try it, but I’ll let you know how it goes!

It does help to start them young, and some kids are just more adventurous eaters than others… tell them to have a race to see who can drink it the fastest. Start out slow on the greens, gradually add more, and he might not notice. Let me know!

    This sounds delish!
However, could you put something other than strawberries into it? My husband is horribly allergic!

Yes, you could substitute any frozen fruit – peaches, mangos, or maybe a different frozen berry. Hope you and your husband enjoy!

I made this smoothie this morning for my breakfast, first time ever making a smoothie, and it’s not too bad! Thank you for the recipe!
