Easy Biscuit Donuts

June 13, 2013

My sister in law showed me how to make these donuts when we were all staying at the cabin for the weekend. I’ve also made them when we go camping. Use paper bags to coat them in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar and clean up is easy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • Canola or vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 2 cans large buttermilk biscuits

Instructions

  1. Heat 2-inches oil in a large pot to 350 degrees.
  2. In a shallow bowl, stir together the sugar and ground cinnamon, set aside.
  3. Lay out the biscuits on a cutting board and with a 1-1/2-inch round cookie or biscuit cutter, cut out a hole from the middle of each biscuit.
  4. Fry them in the oil until golden and then flip with tongs to fry the other side. You can also fry the cut outs to make donut holes.
  5. Drain on paper towels and then toss in the cinnamon-sugar.

These are great, I use to make these for my kids when they were younger, they loved them. I remember being on vacation in Hilton Head and that is all they wanted me to make for breakfast all week. Brings back memories!

I make these all the time and they are a big hit. I also use the whole biscuit and roll it out and then put some ricotta cheese on one side and then fold over and seal with your fingers. Then deep fry them and drain and then put powder sugar on top of them. I love them hot while my husband loves them cold.

Love these! Made them for my children when they were kids at home and for my grandchildren as well Still make them for my husband and myself . We like them with an icing made of cream cheese, butter , and powered sugar . Mmmm! Not for one who is watching calories for sure, but at the top of the list with a good cup of coffee on a cold night. Or…….any kind of night! Easy, quick, and taste pleasing for sure!
