This Apple Cobbler is easy, cozy, and so delicious! It’s just the perfect way to celebrate the fact that we made it through the summer. While our temps here in Arizona are still hovering around 100 degrees, the mornings are starting to cool down, and we can all take a collective sigh of relief. We MADE it.
If you have apples on hand, you probably have everything you need to make this Apple Cobbler. It feeds a crowd and fills your home with the most amazing aroma of cinnamon and sugar. The recipe is unique in that the butter is first melted in the pan in the preheating oven, and then a quick and easy batter is poured over the top. Add the sliced apples, mixed with a little flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon and into the oven it goes!
The most time-consuming part of this recipe is peeling and slicing the apples, so I like to use my hand-cranked Apple Peeler. It’s such a neat little device and the boys love getting all the apples peeled, cored, sliced in a matter of minutes! If you don’t have one, but love to make apple desserts and homemade applesauce, you definitely need one!

I always use Granny Smith apples for baked apple desserts. They don’t get overly soft when baked and offer a tartness that balances out the sweetness of most apple desserts.

This Apple Cobbler is easy, cozy, and so delicious! It’s the perfect way to gather up your loved ones and celebrate that fall season’s arrival.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, salted (1 stick)
- 4 medium Granny Smith apples
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Place butter in a 9 by 13-inch pan and put in the preheating oven to melt the butter. When butter is completely melted, remove the pan from the oven and set aside.
- Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. In a large bowl, mix apples with 1/4 cup of the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- In another large bowl, whisk the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour with granulated sugar, salt and baking powder. Slowly add the milk, whisking as you go. Add vanilla extract and whisk until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the baking dish over the melted butter, and then add the apples in an even layer over the top of the batter.
- Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the top is turning golden brown. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
